Concealed Handgun Permit
Carrying a concealed handgun in the state of Colorado requires a permit, which is issued by the Colorado county of residence. Once granted, permits are valid for a period of five years, at which time the permit holder must apply for permit renewal and updated photo. By Colorado state statute, persons must always have the permit accessible whenever carrying a concealed handgun. The application requirements for both an INITIAL PERMIT and a RENEWING PERMIT are described in the table below.
FOR CLEAR CREEK COUNTY PERMIT HOLDERS. The table below will provide information should you have a CHANGE OF ADDRESS, or require a REPLACEMENT PERMIT due to a Lost, Stolen, or Destroyed permit.
Initial Permit - APPOINTMENT REQUIRED

Other applicants can be denied based on Colorado statute or by the discretion of the Clear Creek County Sheriff's Office. | |
| Copy of a Colorado handgun safety class certificate | After July 1, 2025, new laws are in effect regulating handgun safety training certification. After this date, please check on acceptable training certifications. | |
| Photo and fingerprints | Photos and fingerprinting must be done by the Sheriff's Office in person by APPOINTMENT ONLY, on Thursdays, from 8am until 4pm (Closed from Noon to 1pm). You must make an appointment by calling (303) 679-2376. | |
| 90 day waiting period | Time will begin upon Sheriff's Office acceptance of the application, including valid Colorado training certificate, all fees paid, and completion of fingerprinting and photograph. |

Permit Address Change / Permit Lost or Destroyed

No fee required for a change of address. |
| Permit Lost, stolen or Destroyed. Complete and submit the notarized form to the Sheriff's Office with the required fee of $15.00 to request a replacement card.
